I met an awesome couple on my birthday – Dan and Larkin are Edward’s friends, and they are currently working on Larkin’s sisters Maple Farm. The invited us up to Westby for a day to play around on the farm, learn about maple syrup production and head out for a day of work tapping trees.
We started on the 2.5 hour drive from Madison super early this morning. On the way we saw some interesting things – there were lots of Amish families out and about, and we came across this wagon dropping some kids at home, and another group of kids playing around on a sled with a little pony. I was intrigued!

Today I spent traipsing farmers markets in the sun all across Phoenix, shooting for a Market Focus photo spread for the next issue of Taste & Travel.
We started at Gilbert Farmers Market, down the road from my house, where we tried carrot cake jam, chocolate cookies, and four different types of tamales.

Heading from the west of the island, from Mole Creek or Cradle Mountain, we stopped by The Honey Farm in Chudleigh for a true sweet education. A small museum at the back of the shop had us captivated for a good half an hour, discovering about the life cycle of a bee, their roles, hierarchy and honey production. A cleverly designed system of bee boxes were set up behind a glass window, next a tube through the wall where the bees ‘commute’ to work in the honeycomb that is set in a glass box inside the store.
