After one and a half years, I finally get to see my lovely friend Stina again. Last I saw her was when I left on this adventure, leaving her in a limousine with the rest of my friends at Melbourne Airport. We meet up in Sweden, with a plan to drive out into the countryside for Midsummer, as is the traditional Swedish way. But first, we all spent the weekend in Stockholm. Holed up in an apartment in Södermalm, a trendy island neighbourhood in central, we whiled away the time exploring design stores, coffee roasters and bakeries.
Avocado ice cream sorbet at the best organic ice cream shop,
Wandering Gamla Stan, the old town, to see cobbled streets and old houses,
We’d managed to visit on the weekend of the royal wedding. The streets were buzzing, parades all around.
We found an awesome wacky guy whose basement was filled with second hand everything. The doors were flung open and people filtered down the stone steps. The temperature dropped a few degrees and we were all of a sudden surrounded by anything and everything you could think of.
Raspberry prosecco overlooking the water, and an amazing deli/restaurant for lunch (Urban Deli in Nytorget),
Picnic dinners of Skagenröra in Nytorget park, and my new favourite dish: Dillstuvad potatis med lax. Potatoes stewed in a bechamel and dill, with smoked salmon. So simple. So good.
Stina, Dylan and I head over to Trädgården, a cool club tucked under Skanstull bridge. After you find the hidden entrance, you head through to find everyone cool in Stockholm. It was so warm and sunny, and so close to midsommar – the sun stayed up until close to midnight.
