Today I spent traipsing farmers markets in the sun all across Phoenix, shooting for a Market Focus photo spread for the next issue of Taste & Travel.
We started at Gilbert Farmers Market, down the road from my house, where we tried carrot cake jam, chocolate cookies, and four different types of tamales.
This friendly lady makes a prickly pear chilli compound butter – it would be so good on steak!
The lovely lady at Aunt Ninny’s Cookies gave me a bag of her delicious choc chip cookies to try.
Next we head over to Phoenix Public Market, and wandered around for an hour or two, tasting herbes de provence english crumpets, local olive oils, herbal teas, and cold-pressed juices.
The market downtown is full of interesting characters and amazing things to taste.
We stopped for a bite to eat at the Phoenix Public Market Cafe, well known around town for using locally produced and grown food items, locally roasted coffee, and following their motto ‘building community through food’.
I ordered some soft gingerbread topped with candied fruits, and a huge latte. I sat in the buzzing cafe and people watched.
