We got into Mendocino late last night from the Napa Valley.

It is a beautiful seaside town on the cliff, the start of our trip down the scenic California coast road. We drove into the town only to see a tiny, quaint town filled with old houses and inns, lit up with fairy lights. We found one as we came in and were given a cute loft in an oceanside cottage.

I could stay and drink local organic apple juice, eat freshly picked berries, and listen to the ocean forever.

After breakfast this morning we wandered on the beach for an hour or two.

It is so calm here.

Mum found a loveheart rock (this one is for you, David.) She was happy.

Then we found a cave.

On the walk back to the Inn, we saw hummingbirds, fruit, people having beach picnics and children laughing in the warm California sun. It is the middle of winter, but the sun is so yellow and warm here. It looks like we are in a film, set here in the 70’s – I always thought it was a yellow wash on the film stock, but it is just the light here.
